Pensioners from Cardiff who have worked at some time in Germany are being warned of a new scam from a company overseas and told to be vigilant. It has been revealed by Cardiff Trading Standards that this company is claiming that it can help people to make a claim for a German pension if they have previously lived or worked in Germany.
The company is claiming to be based in Brussels but to also have offices within Germany. Both the European Consumer Centre and the Trading Standards have checked this out and have found absolutely no evidence of any such company at the addresses which the company provided.
Cllr Judith Woodman, who is the deputy leader of Cardiff Council and also an executive member of the housing, community and social justice team, has urged pensioners not to give out any personal details or information to a third party company unless they are convinced that they are legitimate. She said that people should be vigilant if they receive professional looking letters that offer a windfall in return for sensitive and private information.
